In case you need a reminder…
Pilates is all about breathing.
Deep, rhythmic breathing helps relax the nervous system and is an abdominal exercise. That's right, the three part breath (belly, ribs, chest), with pelvic floor and abdominal corset contractions on the exhale (lifting up and in), strengthens your powerhouse and calms you down all at the same time.
Box breathing is another effective way to relieve anxiety and stress, and you can do it anywhere. Just keep repeating this breath pattern:
Inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4
For as long as you need.
So simple, yet so effective!
